SIX LESSONS

This Leader Training course is designed as a “pre-built” Workshop style training to reduce the time and teaching prep load for the Pastor or Church Planter.  This has been developed and used in a format where each lesson is assigned to be done online, then gather for a two hour In-Person Workshop every two or three weeks.  Lessons provide reading and teachings of either Westminster or 1689 Baptist Confessions of Faith, and a MOST helpful Leader’s Manual written by Tim and Kathy Keller when they started Redeemer Church-NYC decades ago.   TARGET:  Aspirational and Existing Church Leaders

Foundations of DisciplING

EIGHT LESSONS

Led by Pastor Jon Sole, in a Workshop format, offers video training sessions, PDFs of teaching content, and defined chapters of Mark Dever’s Discipling: How to Help Others book.TARGET - Aspiratonal and Existng Church Leaders.

  • Unit One: INTRODUCTION--Identity and Mandate-Matthew 28:18-20 calls churches to “make disciples”, but getting started happens by defining identities, and critical components.

    Unit Two: Foundational Models-- Acts 16:1-5 helps us to define these models, and the components of Paul’s model.

    Unit Three: Foundational Practices--Titus 2:1-10 defines practices, and explains/expands on effective discipling.

    Unit Four: ISSUES: Hinderances--identifies five significant hinderances, and compares these to local church contexts.

    Unit Five: IMPLEMENTATION: Primary Tools--three primary tools identified, explaining the importance of their use.

    Unit Six: Various Approaches—three major approaches explored, and the importance of curriculum in all approaches.

    Unit Seven: Getting S-T-A-R-T-E-D—Scripture driven, Trust building, Accountability producing, Reproduction focused, Transformational outcomes, Evangelistic, and Deliberate.

    Unit Eight: Adopting a Model – application and adoption of models, like D-groups, and the value of holistic discipleship.

Spiritual Disciplines and Christian Living

TEN LESSONS

Led by Pastor Jon Sole, in a Workshop format, it offers video training sessions, PDF of teaching content, and defined chapters of Donald Whitney’s Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life and from David Mathis’ Habits of Grace.  TARGET – Aspirational and Existing Church Leaders.   Key disciplines covered are Prayer, Bible Intake, Fasting, Worship, Service and Stewardship.  Most important will be the emphasis of striking the balance between human effort and Divine grace, so that we can reflect Christlikeness in our daily lives.

  • A “template” style course like the Foundations of Discipline course in this section.  This course is filmed segments from “live” Workshop taught by Pastor Jon Sole, intended to give a TEN part Overview of books by Donald Whitney and David Mathis and Q & A to follow. 

    LESSON ONE-INTRODUCTION TO SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES  - The purpose of necessity of Spiritual Disciplines.

    LESSON TWO-BIBLE INTAKE – Reading, Studying, and Meditating- Differences and Importance of each

    LESSON THREE-COMMUNING WITH GOD  - Prayer Journal – Recording and Reflecting Personal Prayer Practices

    LESSON FOUR-FASTING AND SILENCE – Cultivating dependence upon God – with Journal reflections

    LESSON FIVE-PERSONAL WORSHIP AND CORPORATE DEVOTION   - Reflecting and Analyzing our personal and corporate worship.

    LESSON SIX-SERVICE AND STEWARDSHIP – Participation in a Service Project within your local church

    LESSON SEVEN-FELLOWSHIP AND CONFESSION  - Small group reflections on Discussion and Insights.

    LESSON EIGHT-EVANGELISM AND MISSION – Developing a personal approach to sharing the Gospel

    LESSON NINE-PERSEVERANCE AND GROWTH  - Developing long-term Spiritual Growth strategies.

    LESSON TEN-APPLICATION AND PERSONAL ROLE OF LIFE  - “Rule of Life” outlining a commitment to these Spiritual Disciples.

Union with Christ Workshop

NINE LESSONS

A “template” style course different than the Bible Study style offered in our Growing Disciples Part One section. This course is filmed segments from “live” Workshop taught by Rankin, intended to give a four part Overview of UwC, and allowing indepth Q & A to take place.

  • TALK #1 – WHAT IS UNION WITH CHRIST?  - Defining the term Union with Christ, and then exploring where it is taught in the Word.  Both Nov 2025 and June 2026 sessions were filmed and slightly different in content.

    TALK #1 Q & A – Nov 2025 Q&A was NOT filmed but key questions provided as Discussion Questions.  June 2026 was filmed and included after all talks.

    TALK #2 – WHERE DID IT GO? And WHY DO WE NEED TO RECOVER IT?  - A very helpful review beginning with Augustine in 3rd century thru Calvin and other Reformers, then upon attack from variety of voices.,

    TALK #3 – A NEW IDENTITY   - Seeing the Word defining “Who am I (NOW in Christ)? And what is my new identity as I walk with Him in me.

    SUNDAY SERMON – John 15- Vine and the Branches  - Key passage explored using this familiar Metaphor to illustrate the IN nature of Union. Both Nov 2025 and June 2026 sessions were filmed and slightly different in content.
